This could be what is called Shotgun or Artillery Fungus. It seems that this is an increasing problem for different areas of the country. I have been cleaning windows for around 13 years and up until the last two maybe three years I do not remember seeing anything like this. I am now seeing more and more of this fungus on the windows that I clean.

For the most part, regular scrubbing will not take the fungus off. If the window is non-tempered glass, you can use a window scraper to easily remove the fungus. For Tempered windows, I find that an old plastic credit card works well and will not scratch the glass.

Prevention

After all the fungus and any other foreign debris have been removed from the glass, you should then coat it with a glass coating such as Rain X. This will help keep the fungus from creating such a strong bond with the glass thus making it easier to remove if it should reappear.

More info on Shotgun Fungus and Prevention Measures

www.diywindowcleaning.com
www.d0-it-yourself-window-cleaning-tips.com

Window Cleaning Secrets

What are the window cleaning secrets that get windows absolutely spotless and streak-free?

The window cleaning secrets lay within the proper window cleaning tools along with using the right window cleaning techniques.

There’s a reason why professional window cleaners do not use mass marketed store brand window cleaners and non-efficient tools such as paper towels, news paper, lint filled rags, etc. Using these types of tools and methods are no different than trying to paint your house with water color paints and applying it with a tooth brush. This device fits to the top of most extension ladders. It has arms that reach out and grip to the side of the building.

It will keep your ladder from sliding side to side. You can also hook the arms to the top of the roof, a siding lip or window frame which will then keep the ladder from slipping down and out from underneath you.
<div style=”display:block;float:right;margin: 5px 5px 5px 5px;”>

You can purchase the extension ladder stabilizer at most hardware stores for around $45.00 This is way cheaper than an emergency room bill.

www.do-it-yourself-window-cleaning-tips.com

www.d0-it-yourself-window-cleaning-tips.com

Winter Window Cleaning - Egg Removal

Its winter time, cold as can be. Someone comes by in the middle of the night and decides to give you a little surprise by blasting your front windows with an egg or two. As the night passes the egg freezes hard as a rock.

How do you clean it off when it is freezing out? Easy, just take your usual homemade window cleaning solution, purchase the blue anti-freeze auto windshield fluid and add some to your window cleaner. This will keep it from freezing.

The blue stuff by it’s self, is usually good down to about – 20 degrees F. so start with a 50/50 mix. If it’s extremely cold try an 80/20 or even a 90/10 mix.

Use caution, wear rubber gloves so that the blue stuff doesn’t come in contact with your skin. I would also recommend using eye protection as well because you do not want this stuff in your eyes.

Also, be prepared and have a few old towels available because you will want to soak up any excess blue fluid so that it doesn’t stain any window frames or siding. I’ve only known staining to be problem when the blue fluid is left to dry on white colored vinyl frames and siding.
<div style=”display:block;float:right;margin: 5px 5px 5px 5px;”>

If you do not have a good recipe for a homemade window cleaning solution, you can try using mine, just click on this think. Window Cleaning Secret Solutions

For more free window cleaning tips visit:
do-it-yourself-window-cleaning-tips.com
www.d0-it-yourself-window-cleaning-tips.com

Mineral Deposits On Shower Doors

Question: Why won’t any cleaners remove the hard water spots on the shower door?

Water that is classified as “hard water” typically contains calcium or magnesium and/or bicarbonate alkalinity.

If hard water is left to dry on the surface of glass such as a shower door, minerals will be left behind. This is typically not a problem if the deposits are removed right away. Usually any acid base cleaner will work.

Each time the shower is used new layers of mineral deposits are formed. If not cleaned off the layers will build to a white, chalky or cloudy looking film. Over time, the deposits slowly start a process called etching. Soft water can sometimes even promote this etching process. It also seems that there are types of glass more susceptible to etching than some.

When regular acid base cleaners will no longer completely remove the mineral deposits you know the glass has been etched. Etched glass is considered damaged and cannot be repaired. The only option is to then replace the glass.
<div style=”display:block;float:right;margin: 5px 5px 5px 5px;”>

To prevent mineral deposits from etching, coat the surface of the glass with a coating such as Rain X. This barrier will help keep the minerals from adhering to the glass. You must start with a new and clean surface. After each shower usage, squeegee off the water. If the deposits start to build, clean it off with an acid base cleaner. Rinse, dry and apply a new coat of glass sealer.
